Overhaul of EPCs Proposed

Landmark EPC changes proposed

The UK Government is proposing significant reforms to the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) system for commercial properties, aiming to improve building performance assessments and align with net-zero goals.

The proposed changes include:

  • Multi-Metric EPCs: Moving from a single rating to a more detailed system, incorporating energy efficiency (A-G), energy demand, and direct emissions metrics to provide a clearer picture of your building’s performance.
  • Shorter Validity Periods: EPCs may need to be renewed every 2, 5, or 7 years, replacing the current 10-year period, ensuring assessments reflect the latest upgrades and performance.
  • Enhanced Compliance Measures: Stricter penalties for non-compliance, improved assessor training, and mandatory audits to enhance the reliability of EPCs.
  • Redesigned Reporting: Simplified, clearer EPC formats designed to offer actionable recommendations for energy efficiency improvements.

 Why this matters
These changes will directly impact your real estate and sustainability strategies. Early action can enhance your building’s performance, reduce costs, and align with ESG goals, boosting value and marketability.
